Bloggerstock: Do-Overs!

bloggerstockHello, and welcome to Bloggerstock, an online blogger festival of sorts! My name is Alexandra and I have a blog called the Tsaritsa sez. For this month’s Bloggerstock challenge the topic is “Do over.”

I’ve written on the topic of regret before and thought I had it figured all out. I’m in a happy relationship, I live in a fabulous city, I love my friends and family, what would I have to regret? If the choices I made in the past, even the mistakes, brought me to where I am in life now, why should I want to change those choices? For instance: yeah, I probably should have gotten rid of that shitty trash-talking friend years ago, but if I had done that I would have never gone to San Francisco that weekend and met my now boyfriend.

But then again, what about the little mistakes I’ve made, or the things I could have easily done that wouldn’t alter my position in life right now, except for the better.

I perhaps should have applied myself harder in school, gone out for more extracurricular activities, taken more internships, applied for more scholarships. It’s not that I didn’t do well in school– I always got high marks in my classes and graduated with honors– but I mostly skated by. I didn’t like studying so I didn’t do it. I would leaf through a book in preparation minutes before a test, just because I didn’t feel like reading it. Most of my essays in high-school and college were written the night-before the due date. I wonder if my life would be any different now if I had actually read The Faerie Queene in its entirety. Maybe I’d have a higher-paying job? Maybe I wouldn’t be on unemployment right now.

Another thing I would want to “do over” is my inclination to get angry or pissed off whenever the mood strikes me. At times, my anger is fully appropriate, like the time I was sitting in a taqueria enjoying a burrito when a woman spat her beer all over my face. That was indeed a time to get angry and use the “cunt” word (I might have also used the “old hag ugly bitch skank” word, too). But other times my anger is not warranted and directed at the wrong person and I end up looking/acting/being a jackass. I can’t think of any particular time where I got angry about something trivial that I regret, but in general it’s an issue I’m working on. Yelling at my boyfriend and calling him a jerk because I stubbed my toe while getting out of bed is just an example.

So, to wrap up, I regret having a bad attitude (sometimes) and regret being so damn lazy when I had the chance to apply myself. I also regret dating some of the losers I dated in the past, but that’s a whole other blog post right there and I don’t even want to get into that right now. Forget I said anything.

Bloggerstock: Potential Postcards

It is that crazy time of the month again, when bloggers unite for a little blogging fun known as bloggerstock!  This month I am happy to be hosting a good blogger friend and fellow founder of Bloggerstock, Shinxy.  She never fails to speak her mind and she is always interesting to read.  Hopefully you all enjoy her writing as much as I do!

As usual, Shinxy’s post is very blunt and some may see it as controversial.  If you actually read her blog it will make more sense.  I only post this warning because there are some of you out there who may be offended, but hey, we can’t please everyone all the time!  Shinxy’s postcard is written to Adolph Hitler and she wanted the picture on the back to be the following:

So, without any further ado, I shall turn the floor over to Shinxy for the July Bloggerstock event: “Potential Postcards.”

Dear Adolf,

There is much debate as to whether the T4 program was euthanasia or murder; and whether it was the stepping stone to the Holocaust (Okay there isn’t. Every history book says it was murder, and it was a stepping stone to the Holocault. It’s just that I disagree). Any research I have done on the subject has ended in ’and six million Jews died in concentration camps’. I am one of the few who separates these events.

My boyfriends and I would have been terminated under your T4 program, but I do not connect the Holocaust and T4. Most people say you would have killed us because you thought us inferior or inhuman, as you saw the Jews. I prefer to think they were indeed mercy killings. In your last few hours, you had to make the decision to kill your beloved German Shepard, Blondi, before the Russians got to her and tortured her. You knew if you let her live, the rest of her life would be suffering. I like to think you thought of us like that. I haven’t spoken to one severely disabled person about the issue of suicide without them sharing a story of an attempt. There are many of us who can only look forward to a future of increased disability. If one commits suicide, one is seen as a coward. If one is euthanised, as you would have done to us, those who care about us can only feel the comfort that we are no longer suffering, not the anger. I would love this option. Part of me wishes I was terminated under the T4 program. I am sure that there are many deceased from that who would thank you if they could; certainly the ones who had descended into madness to the point where they no longer know what’s going on around them, as I will be one day.

For those of the 200,000 killed whose very being was torturous and unbearable, I thank you for giving them mercy.

Regards,

Shinxy

Bloggerstock: “The story of what is on my desk”

june2010banner
It is bloggerstock time again!  For those of you who don’t really know what bloggerstock is, it is a new take on a blog swap where instead of a 1-to-1 swap we make a ring.  You can get more information about it over at the Bloggerstock website.  This week I am bringing you Kara from Chatter. If you are looking for my post, it is over on Benny’s blog: “Young Urban Amatuer.”  By the way, thanks to Toya for the new graphics!

Hello kids! My name is Kara and you can find me over on my blog, ChatterI’m guest posting here today for Bloggerstock, a website that gathers bloggers together once a month to swap blogs for a day. June’s topic is “The Story of What’s On Your Desk”, and so without any further ado, let the rambling begin!

It’s hard to come up with what’s on my desk without babbling on for hours on end. (Okay, maybe not hours, but for long enough to make you go, “WTF WOMAN SHUT UP ALREADY!”) As I sat at work pondering what I would write about my place of Zen and solitude, I looked around and realized that nothing on my desk was very exciting. Nothing. I have no pictures of friends, significant others, or family, no cute little gadgets, nothing. Even my “desk” (which is actually a wooden TV tray) at home is boring.

You see, I just recently moved into my little home away from home at the beginning of May. I’m only just starting to feel comfortable at my new job and my surroundings, so I’m slowing starting to make it more “me”. For one, it’s freakishly organized compared to my coworker’s desks and I have to give up a little bit of space for communal objects.

The other day  I figured I’d draw up a little doodle of my desk, just to show you how freaking boring it really is:

Kara's Desk

Oh look! I even drew in little numbers to make it easier to explain what's going on, and the yellow means shiz I share with everyone else. OCD for the win.

  1. My basket of things to do, be it customers I need to call or ads I’m waiting to complete.
  2. My pen mug. It has a funny face with a little 3D nose and it was there when I started. I don’t have the heart to get rid of him. Maybe I should name him. Suggestions?
  3. My day planner. It reminds me which days I work late, which days I work at my other job and it reminds me that the weekend is always further away than it seems.
  4. My computer monitor. It sits on a stack of paper for height and I’m so glad it’s a flat-screen so it doesn’t take up any precious space.
  5. The keyboard. Enough said.
  6. My squishy wrist supporter for my achy, carpel tunnelly wrists.
  7. The mouse. Double click away!
  8. The communal “To Do” basket. People just drop stuff off when they need something done, and it all goes into this basket until whoever’s available can do it.
  9. My telephone. Probably the coolest part about my desk since it’s BRAND SPANKING NEW. Everyone else’s is a horrible yellow colour.
  10. My box of Kleenex. My nose is always running. Always.
  11. Printer paper for the …
  12. … Printer. At least I don’t have to get up and walk to the printer. Ah, it’s good to be lazy!

So there you have it. There really is no story to my desk. Everything, except for the box of Kleenex and the wrist support thing, was there when I started. Even the stick man. No lies.

Bloggerstock: What is your theme song?

It is that time again.  Bloggerstock is here and this time we have expanded beyond the ten founders of the event.  Personally, I have been quite impressed with the turnout, and how easy it was to really keep things organized.  I shouldn’t dawdle on that subject though, that is not the purpose of this post!

In an ironically convenient twist of fate, the bloggerstock post date falls on a Monday, which suits the theme that I sometimes have for Mondays, “Mondays on Music.”  So, here to tell you a little bit about personal theme songs is Susie Q from Out of the Ordinary.  Susie Q is a blogger who doesn’t hesitate to just lay it all out there.  Her blog has recently moved, but if you track down her old one, you can see she has been at it for a while.  She is days away from graduating from uni, and has just lined up a great job.  If you like to read life unedited, you might enjoy reading Susie Q.

If you are looking for my post, you can find it over on That Ain’t Kosher.

Without further ado, I give you Susie Q!

Hello peeps, Susie Q here! I am guest posting here on Alex’s blog today after Bloggerstock enticed me to do a blog swap! If you haven’t checked it out already, click on the link and see what’s going on! Basically it’s a ring of bloggers who all love taking using and abusing other people’s personal space. :) Nah, it’s a great way of discovering new bloggers and readers.

Every month there’s a new topic that all the bloggers will write about. Then all these bloggers are muddled up and write on other people’s blogs. It’s not just a simple swap of “you write on mine and you write on mine” but all blogs link together. Like, I’m here on Alex’s space and I have received a wonderful post from Michael. You can read his post right here. Go ahead, click.. It’s a good one!

When I heard the theme for this month’s bloggerstock, the first thought that came to my mind, was *zomgh* am I meant to know what my theme song is? But I don’t listen to music unless it’s pounding in my ear as I’m doing my daily run!

But as I thought about it, it did become very clear what my theme song is. It’s the one song that gives me that tingly feeling in my tummy as it comes on. It’s the one that makes my heart skip a beat as it plays on my iPod.

Now, I have to tell you; there is a backstory to the song. Basically, my ex left me two years back. He left me while I was at work; he must’ve started packing as soon as I left. Imagine my surprise as I came home in the early hours of the morning! He did come in the next morning to explain but the damage was already done. It hurt. It was the betrayal that I cried about, not the ending of a year-long relationship.

So I went to my safe-place, where I felt happy. I pulled out my Tori Amos cd’s and stuffed myself full of ice-cream all the while whining about how terrible my life was. I trawled the internet for relationship advice (cos the internets knows it all y’all!) and my search led me to youtube. It ended up being a pointless link that had nothing to do with relationships. It was this girl doing hip rolls. (search it if you don’t know what they are. If done right, it looks so sexy!) I was just about to close the screen as the music came on. ‘Ice Box’ by Omarion. And the melody caught me immediately. And I sat there and started feeling better. The song was all about the break-up. The lyrics were about the break-up. EVERYTHING in the whole wide world was about the breakup!

“I got this ice box where my heart used to be … Why can’t I get it right? Just can’t let it go/I opened up, she let me down, I won’t feel that no more/I got memories, this is crazy/She ain’t nothin’ like the girl I used to know”

And that’s how it stayed for a long time. Every time I heard the song, it reminded me of him. Every time it played, I would go to that sad time in my life. Up until a few months ago even. And that’s when it all changed.

You see, I’ve been called the ‘Ice Queen’ by some. Because unless you’re in my inner circle, you would not know that I have emotions. I do not talk about problems, I hide them like a secretive mole. I don’t cry in front of people, and even smiles have been few and far between. And it’s because I’ve been hurt in the past.. “Just can’t let it go/I opened up, she let me down, I won’t feel that no more” So there I was, listening to this song again. And I realised; I am no longer THAT GIRL. I no longer drag my past with me. This song no longer reminds me of the ex. Now reminds me of the past. It reminds me of how far I have come.

“She ain’t nothin’ like the girl I used to know” Yeah, I am nothing like the girl you used to know. I’m stronger, wiser and unfortunately older. I am who I am and where I am because of what has happened in the past, not despite that. But sometimes, just sometimes it’s quite nice to jump deep in the pool of the past. So here you go guys; my past.

Thank you Alex for letting me invade your personal space, I enjoyed it! Now people, get clicking!

Bloggerstock: The Internet Ate My…

Welcome one and all to the first official Bloggerstock blog swap/blog ring/blog “round robin” or whatever you want to call it.  Today you will be reading a guest post by Bobby from Inside the Mind of Booya.  All of the posts today are by the Bloggerstock founders, so if you have the chance, please check out their blogs.  You can get a listing at the Bloggerstock webpage via the link above.  If you are looking for my post, you can find it over on Scott’s blog.  So, without further ado: The Internet ate My….

…gaming! What the frak is wrong with my lately? I use to play games almost all the time except weekends. Now it just, blah. I’m not saying I’m burnt out on gaming. It just I been watching/catching up with some shows lately. Thanks to Hulu and Netflix streaming. I been catching up on Legend of the Seeker on Netflix. Watching stand up comedians like Richard Pryor, Daniel Tosh and Frank Caliendo. What else on the internet is eating up my gaming time? Ohhhh yeah their Revision 3. Thanks Diggnation for getting me hooked on your show. Since all their shows are game and technology related, I try to watch each show. But I’m mostly addicted to Diggnation. Drinking plus Digg stories he hilarious show. Then you got the Totaly Rad Show and Tekzilla.

Also I been trying out Plants vs Zombies. Don’t see what so addicting to Plants vs Zombies. I played the first 5 levels and wasn’t wowed by it. It is a cute concept. I did like bowling the potatos into the zombies. That should be a game of it own. I love Bejeweled from Pop Cap. Just don’t know if I wanna spend $20 for it. Ugh should of bought it when Pop Cap hads a 50% off sale on all their games. The We Rule game for the Ipad? Yeah I like to try that. Sadly there no PC version. I love sim games except for The Sims. I will not play that game! If I had a ipad, all my xbox gaming would be non existence. I’ll be surfing the intrawebs, watching porn on my ipad.

It also doesn’t help that my favorite podcaster Leo Laporte has a show almost everyday. Seriously he does 5 days of live podcasts that run for 6 hours. I plan on watching all 6 of those hours because those shows are funny yet informative. He got This Week in Tech, This Week in Google, The Tech Guy, Macbreak Weekly, Windows Weekly, Munchcast, Net@night and The Daily Giz Wiz. Like I said, I like all his shows. To bad i didn’t find out about this years ago. So yeah in a nutshell, the internet is eating my gaming time. Will I be able to break this internet curse? I sure hope so.
