At Sea

Today we are sailing between England and Norway. I suppose that at least I am busy on sea days, because as much as I don’t like having to get up in the morning to do the 0930 lecture, I would rather have something to do than nothing. I wouldn’t know what to do with myself. I went up for breakfast, the usual, pancakes from Erik with some cantaloupe and cereal. Cantaloupe is sometimes hit or miss, sometimes it is juicy and good, and sometimes it is a little crunchy.

This morning was another port lecture with Barbara about more of the ports we will be visiting in Norway. We are going to be spending a good few days above the Arctic Circle. After the lecture was bingo, as usual, and then at 1200 we had rehearsal with tonight’s performer, Tommy Bond, a pianist.

After rehearsal I had lunch with Jen, and I heard about the “wonderful” kids that are on the ship for the next 14 days until we get to Amsterdam. We also learned that the banks of Norway might be going on strike tomorrow, which would severely impact our ability to get Norwegian money. The ship has some, but not enough I would imagine. I guess we will see what happens.

In the afternoon we had the second lecture, this one was a little more interesting to me as it was about Ibsen, the playwright, and I know some of his plays. After the lecture I had some time off, and then I went up for dinner. After dinner we had the two shows, and then in celebration of Filipino Independence day we had a crew party in the forward mooring deck. It was fun, the Basul Quartet played, they are really great, and they had some traditional foods. I left the party relatively early, I heard that the last people left at like 4 am, but I wanted to be able to get up for the cruise up the Oslo Fjord.
