Half Moon Cay – Bahamas

Today was a good day. I got to sleep in, though as I mentioned before, you would never know you slept in unless you look at the clock or go outside. I went up for breakfast, they have great pancakes made to order, and believe it or not real maple syrup. As usual after breakfast I made my walk around the top deck. This really helps wake me up in the morning, plus the past days have been beautiful. I think I will be happy when we get to Europe though as it will hopefully be less humid and slightly cooler out.

Rehearsal today was at 1330, but unfortunately we didn’t have time to get through the entire show because we had to change the stage setup. Had we realized this earlier we might have made it. Such is life. We rescheduled that last 10 minutes of rehearsal back in just before the show at 1800. At 1430 we had a showing of the cruise video which is why we had to stop rehearsal. I know it probably isn’t my job top comment on the video, but it was very boring. I felt like it just dragged on, and could have been more interesting. I guess people must like it because they keep selling them.

After the showing of the video I had a meeting with the environmental officer (E.O.) to go over how Holland America handles environmental concerns and tries to minimize environmental impact. As it turns out, Carnival Inc., the owners of HAL and many other cruise lines was prosecuted by the US government a few years ago for environmental issues, and as such has now been at the forefront of the movement to ensure that cruise ships minimize environmental impact. Ultimately the training course took about 2 hours, and there is still one little bit left to do. I also have to complete the Security training, but they aren’t doing that until May 23.

After the training I found time to grab a bite for dinner and then it was back to the theatre for the show. Tonight’s shows started early so that guests could have time to pack. The show was just a variety show where they brought back a couple of the guest entertainers to perform a few pieces. Fairly simple.

I took some time after the show to talk a little more with Trix, and get as much information as I could, and have the3 questions that I still had answered. I am sure that over the next week I will have more questions, and I will probably make a few mistakes, but I think it will all work out.

Wnet down to the Officer’s Bar later. Many people congregate there so I find that I meet people that way. It is fun, I little loud and smokey, but when we are at sea, it is one of the good crew hideaway’s. Plust it is the only place where you can get a can of soda for 50 cents or get a giant bottle of water. though I usually fill my nalgene up in the dining room.

I think Bed is in the future, tomorrow will be an early day as I have to get up for US Immigration.
